Extended Hot August Nights Fun Ushers in Solar Eclipse Event

PlacervilleHot August Nights in Placerville begins on Saturday, August 19th. This event is sponsored by the Boise Basin Boosters and will be at the Placerville Plaza. “This event is a thank you to the community for their support to the Boosters,” according to Jessica Gasiorowski, a Booster Member. What makes the event even more special is the Great American Solar Eclipse of 2017 follows on Monday the 21st after the annual weekend.

The annual Hot August Nights will have food and events as always but this year it happens to coincide with the historical event. There is camping nearby where one can stay for the full weekend of events. Spots will start to will fill fast since Placerville will have a total of one minute thirty- three seconds (1 Minute 33 Seconds) of the total duration of totality of the solar eclipse. There is a new event on Saturday the 19th, the day will start with a Dutch Oven cook-off and the public is welcome to enter. Entries are free and there will be a prize (not yet determined) for the winner. This will begin at 10:00 AM and conclude by 2:00 PM.  Everything must be cooked on site.  Judging will be from 2:00-3:00 with the public being able to vote on always scrumptious Dutch Oven cooking.

The Boise Basin Boosters will also be providing a roast pig, table service, tea and coffee.  They are asking that guests bring a side dish, salad or dessert.  Dinner will begin at 4:00 PM. It is also Back to School Night fundraiser, so the Boosters will be accepting donations for school supplies for the Idaho City schools.

Sunday night, August 20th, the Boise Basin Boosters will be providing hot dog and snow cones for $1 each starting at 7:00 PM. Entertainment will start later in the evening. Ed Cain and George Jelink will be playing 50s and 60s rock and roll. 

On Monday morning, August 2st, activities will continue. The Placerville Fire Auxiliary will be providing pancakes for $1 a pancake before solar eclipse event.
