An Adventure Park in Garden valley at the base of Charter Mountain is a growing business. One year has gone by with the owners Jason and Kelly Sawin. They have consistently been bringing new plans and ideas to the table. They are designing a park that eventually will be full of different activities for the community and tourists looking for adventure.
The Xsports Tubing Hill in the winter brings in people to experience one of the longest runs in the country. The ability to make snow early will increase the snow depth. Jason can make snow early this year as long as it is cold and plans to open the tubing hill by Thanksgiving. We all agree that help from Mother Nature is the best way but according to Jason, that won’t stop the plans for opening by November 26. Snowmaking can also keep the tubing season going longer.
Summer this year was a bit more of a struggle for the Sawin’s Adventure Park. The Pioneer Fire created lots of smoke and many traveling tourists did not venture out to Garden Valley after hearing that Banks-Lowman Road was closed to Lowman. They tried getting the word out that Garden Valley was open.
Early in the summer, the activities included euro bungee jumping and bouncy houses for kids. As interest in mountain biking increased, Jason spent a lot of time grooming the hillside to include a mountain bike trail and bike rentals, including two motorized bikes. Later in the summer there was an addition of disc golf.
“Plans for next summer are still up in the air,” Sawin reveals. “We want to do better with the MiddleFork River tubes, maybe get a van and enclosed trailer to transport people. Our current site needs a lot of work for a good summer venue. We haven’t decided yet what will happen for next spring.”
Some other ideas the Sawin’s are working on is more creative event planning. Jason says “I wished I had thought of some of them soon enough for this year.” He explained, “The fire really hurt us and took any wind out of our sails. “But, we will be open the day after Thanksgiving and I have several improvements planned before then.” Check out the Idaho X-Sports Adventure Park Facebook page for ongoing information. https://www.facebook.com/idahoXsports/
