I wanted to spread the word about the opportunity for Garden Valley 6th – 12th graders to compete in the Idaho Interscholastic Cycling League’s Fall Mountain Bike racing series – 5 races on Saturdays from Aug. 27th – Oct. 8th. See the attached flyer or go to: www.idahomtb.org for more information on the league.
John Cottingham has already registered our team with the league, so we are ready to form a team. We will have a booth outside the school this Thursday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 pm (during the open house) to provide information and sign up interested students. Home school students are welcomed also. Jason from Idaho X-Sports Adventure Park has offered his support and is planning to come show off a couple of their rental bikes there as well.
If you are interested at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us or visit us on Thursday. We plan to take a group up to the first race at Jug Mountain in McCall on Aug. 27th to either participate or just watch and see how much fun it is. Also, if your bike needs a tune-up or you just don’t have one, don’t let that stop you – we can help get it running great or even find low-cost options for borrowing one for the season. And, since races are on Saturdays and we can be flexible with practice days (probably only one/week), students competing in other sports should still be able to participate. Lastly, they have lots of different age and skill classes, so don’t worry if you aren’t ready for the Olympics; the idea is just to have fun! Scott Kahre – 208-514-6297
